Playing as Human

As a human, your goal is to survive long enough to escape. Most of your round is spent moving through the map and holding positions. Here’s how to do both well.

The cardinal rule. Humans who split from the group die. The game is a linear progression, follow the crowd.

A defense is an easy to hold position where humans stop to fight off zombies for a set time or until a map event triggers.

  • Find cover but stay within the hold boundary
  • Shoot to slow zombies down (knockback is often more important than damage)
  • Don’t push into the zombies, your job is to hold the line, not advance
  • Listen for the push/back call, when leaders say move, move immediately

ZE servers often have plugins that give zombies high HP or knockback resistance. Your bullets still matter, knockback stacks across the whole team. Consistent fire from many players is what keeps zombies out.

Read Defending for more details on the last two sections.

EntWatch items are powerful and limited. If you pick one up without knowing how to use it, you waste it. Don’t touch items unless you know what to do with it, or a leader asks you to hold one.

See Items & EntWatch for details.

You don’t need to talk to contribute. Do:

  • Follow callouts
  • React to “defend” and “back” commands immediately
  • Avoid running unnecessary callouts that drown out leaders

If you’re at risk, low HP, surrounded, cut off from the group: don’t panic and shoot blindly. Sprint toward the group. Every second of extra survival time helps the team. Hopefully your team will see this and move to cover you.
